Pubsw Software

Introduction

The pubsw software tree contains over 500 free and site-licensed software packages installed in AFS for multiple different versions of Unix and available to any machine at Stanford running a supported version of Unix and mounting AFS. This is also the software tree used by all the Sweet Hall cluster machines.

To use any of the software installed in the pubsw tree, all you need to do is install AFS on your Unix machine. The provided instructions explain how to create the /usr/pubsw link on your system, and then all pubsw software will be found under that directory. To best use the software, /usr/pubsw/bin should be added to your path.

Available Software

See the installed pubsw software page for a complete list of software currently installed in pubsw, sorted by category. This list includes the version installed, a brief description, and a list of all files contained in that package. An alternate view of the same information is also available, sorted without regard to category.

We only install pubsw for a limited set of brands and versions of Unix, driven primarily by the number of people at Stanford who use it and whether we have a machine to use to build the software. Here is the support status of pubsw by platform.

Pending pubsw requests are posted on the upcoming changes page. We get a lot of requests, support a lot of platforms, and don't have that many resources to devote to building software, so please be patient. If you would like to request a package which isn't already installed or listed on this page, or request an upgrade of a package that's currently installed, please submit a HelpSU request.

Stow Packages

Some selected packages are also provided as stow packages, suitable for installation on local disk on a Unix server. These are primarily support libraries used by servers, or core software such as Perl.

For more information, see the stow packages page.
