Stanford Voice Messaging
New service rolled out to campus May 17
All campus voicemail users who dialed into 3-0000 were upgraded on May 17 to the new Stanford Voice Messaging system—a proactive move to transition subscribers from the legacy system before its end of life in 2011. Hospitals and Medical School voicemail subscribers who dial into 3‐1111 will be transitioned later this year.
To access the new Stanford Voice Messaging system, dial 5-0000. Your mailbox number is now the 10-digit phone number.
What's new about the new system?
Stanford Voice Messaging offers new features, at no extra charge. You can opt to (1) receive fax messages via your phone and/or (2) have your voicemail forwarded to your email account. If you opt for (2), your faxes will be sent as .tiff format messages to your email box. You can also choose whether to keep copies of your messages on your phone. (If you choose not to, you will avoid having to manage messages in two locations, but be aware that your message waiting lamp will not light up when you receive a message, as it will be sent only to your email box.)
A Web component to manage your preferences is scheduled for rollout later this year.

Stanford Cell Support Extends Hours
Lost your phone? Phone stolen? Need help activating a new phone?
The Stanford Cell Support Line is now staffed 24/7 to take your calls. Just call 5-HELP (650-725-4357) and press option 4 to reach a certified mobile technician who can take your questions and update your cell's features.
International Coverage—Activate Now
Going on a trip? Be sure to activate your international features before you leave. Most call overages are caused by wrong calling plans! Also, leave your international calling features on for 60 days after you return from your trip to make sure that the charges are handled in the appropriate billing cycle and overages are not applied.

Work Anywhere Virtual Meeting Pilot
The University's Work Anywhere Virtual Meeting Pilot Program continues for University faculty and staff. Have you and those in departments you support given it a try? Its free tools can save you time and increase your effectiveness.
We know the campus community works from a variety of locations—from home and from various on- and off-campus work locations. With time constraints as they are, even cross-campus walks or bike/Marguerite/shuttle rides to meetings can take valuable minutes out of your daily schedule.
Solution: Hold meetings “virtually,” from wherever you are working, with participants attending via phone and web browser. Two options are available:
(1) All faculty and staff are eligible to use Cisco WebEx Meeting Center software and integrated audio-conferencing free of charge. Visit the Work Anywhere site and click the WebEx Meeting Center "Learn More" link for information on how to get started. (At the end of June, the top 20 WebEx Meeting hosts will receive a free Cisco webcam to thank them for their participation.)
(2) All SUNet ID account holders can pilot the Adobe Connect software under the Medical School MedIRT Medmeeting software. If you use the optional integrated audio-conference, there is a small fee for the time (five cents per person per minute).
The Work Anywhere Project team urges you to try out these tools and make them a part of your regular “toolkit.” As Stanford adjusts to changes brought about by multiple work locations, a mobile work force, and budget reductions—as well as the demands of teaching, research, and administrative agendas and increased collaboration with others—using such tools can really help.

How we distribute this newsletter to you. . .
We use the OrderIT site list of current Department Contacts (there are about 2,000) to ensure that names and email addresses are the most up-to-date. That means there is no way to subscribe to our distribution list; if you are currently listed as a Department Contact, you’ll receive this newsletter. We look forward to continued communication and feedback! If you would like to contact us directly, please send an email to: orderit_support_team@stanford.edu. For support issues, please use HelpSU.
