FAQs for Administrative Users of Peoplesoft

Training Classes

PeopleSoft training classes are listed each quarter in the Training Opportunities Guide for Stanford staff, published quarterly as an insert in the Stanford Report. All courses are also listed online via the STARS application in Axess (SUNet ID required).
 
Student Administration users should review the Training Guide for Student Administration to learn about the different classes available. If you are a user of the Human Resources Management System (PS HRMS), review the PeopleSoft HRMS Training Guide to determine what training is applicable to your role.

Online Training Modules

Netscape Navigator is not supported for the online training modules; use Internet Explorer. Additionally, there is a known problem with pop-up windows not closing properly on the Macintosh.

PeopleSoft Concepts and Navigation
This overview of version 8 includes new navigation and functionality. Start here no matter what your user role is in PeopleSoft.
 
GFS Read Only
Learn Graduate Financial Support policy and how to navigate through the PeopleSoft GFS pages. This online tutorial fulfills the training requirement for read only access to PeopleSoft GFS.
 
Graduate Admissions
Designed for staff who handle graduate admissions for their department. Topics include maintaining applicant information and entering departmental decisions.
 
Manage HR Records
Learn all procedures relevant to managing employee job records. Topics include hiring, job updates, personal data, requisitions, and more. Includes simulations of procedures in PS HRMS. Tutorial is required for new users.
 
Manage Positions
Learn all procedures to create and update position records for both staff and faculty positions.
 
Student Administration Basics
Addresses the fundamental knowledge needed to use the PeopleSoft Student Administration system. Topics include viewing academic information, including transcripts and assigning service indicators.

Student Records for Department Users
Designed for student services staff that need information to assign advisors, update milestone information, grant candidacy and maintain student progress.
 
Worklist Manager for GFS Approvers
Provides the information necessary to approve GFS aid lines. The course is suitable for both Home Department Approvers and Financial Approvers.
 
FERPA, GLB, and Student Financial Account Inquiry
Get the information you need to maintain compliance with FERPA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley (GLB) legislation regarding confidentiality of student educational and financial information. Learn to use the new Student Account Summary page to inquire on student charges, financial aid, GFS, refunds, and payment plans. This tutorial fulfills the training requirement for access to student account information.

Desktop Requirements

PeopleSoft is accessed using your web browser. Basic Windows and Macintosh browser requirements for administrative users are listed here: Browser Requirements for Administrative Applications

Confirm your platform and browser will work with the current version of PeopleSoft. The Axess browser test will give you the confirmation; if there is any incompatibility detected, please contact your local desktop support person to resolve the desktop issue(s).
