Internet Domain Name Registration Guidelines
Officially Supported Names
These are Domain Names that end with 'stanford.edu'. Stanford underwrites the cost of these registrations.
Names Hosted by Stanford with Fee-based Support
ITSS supports some non-stanford.edu Domain Names that are registered in the interests of legitimate long-term members of the Stanford community, such as hoover.org.
For this non-standard Domain Name Service, ITSS charges a $50 registration fee and a $5 monthly maintenance fee.
Independent University-Related Registrations
Departments and legitimate University organizations may obtain Domain Names from a registrar on their own at modest cost. Frequently the services provided by the registrar will meet the majority of the registrant's needs. In situations where such needs are not met, the Names Hosted by Stanford with Fee-based Support Service is an option. (ITSS will provide some level of instruction (<=1hour) to enable the requestor to use the features of the registrar DNS services, contact sunet-admin@stanford.edu for this type of help.)
Please note that Stanford-related Domain Names, paid for with Stanford funds, should be registered using the following information (The department or organization should use their business contact information for the 'Billing Contact', the billing contact person will be responsible for renewing the domain name when it comes due.):
