Windows Vista Service Pack 1
On this page:
Overview
Microsoft released Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows Vista in March 2008 through Windows Update. SP1 includes a complete set of updates released over the past year along with additional changes and features.
Starting the second week of April 2008, SP1 will automatically download on computers that have the Windows automatic update feature turned on. However, SP1 will not automatically install.
Compatibility
Based on our testing and checks with vendors, IT Services has not identified any compatibility problems with the commonly used desktop applications on campus, including: Symantec AntiVirus 10.2, Stanford Desktop Tools, Kerberos for Windows, Spy Sweeper, SecureCRT/FX, Adobe Reader, Security Self-Help, and Cisco VPN Client.
Additional Information
- Windows Update will not download SP1 on machines running third party drivers known to have compatibility problems. See http://
support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343 for more information and a list of drivers.
- Installing Windows Vista SP1 is very time consuming — one to two hours is not uncommon. If you wish to do the upgrade, plan accordingly.
- BigFix console operators: A fixlet is available that will prevent SP1 from appearing in Windows Update.
