Frequently Asked Questions — Contractors, Construction Sites

Service Overview

Contractors working at campus construction sites typically subscribe to IT Services phone and voicemail services in their trailers or construction site offices. IT Services: establishes billing accounts for each contractor, creates a cable/wiring feed to the temporary trailer/bldg, installs telephone jacks (TSOs), and activates service as requested. Contractors typically use modem or DSL lines for their network connections back to corporate offices.

Cost of Service: Same Rates as for any campus administrative office. $155 per line to activate, $23.50 - $50.45 per month per telephone/device, voicemail is $30 activation and $6.95/month. Point client to http://www.stanford.edu/services/telephone/department/rates/ for IT Services rate information.

Turn around time of request: It is best for contractors to contact IT Services (725-HELP) as soon as they know their construction site location and date their trailer will be on-site. Usually 2 weeks are needed to do all the work necessary to activate phones.

Required information from client: Company Name, Corporate Address & Phone Number, Contact Person at Corporate Office Accounts Payable, Contact Person for campus construction site, target date service is expected/needed.

I represent a construction company working on the Stanford campus. Can I get phone service from Stanford?

Yes! Contractors can order service by calling 5-HELP, selecting OPTION #4 and requesting to open a telecom REFERRAL order.

Can I make long distance calls on the Stanford telephone?

Yes! Just order an authorization code for each person using the phone, when you request a REFERRAL order.

Can I also order network connections for my construction site?

You will need a Stanford sponsor to secure a network connection on site at Stanford. Line connections are available, but you will have to have a Stanford University Network (SUNET) log-on to access the Internet after the line is installed. The sponsor must be someone with financial responsibility for your project.

I'm a vendor working on the campus temporarily. Can I request a telephone in my temporary office?

Yes, you can request a temporary phone. This can be ordered by calling 5-HELP and selecting OPTION 4. Please state that you are a vendor when you call.

Is it possible to request customized orders for network and telecom infrastructure?

This is a commonly occurring request. Please call 5-HELP and choose OPTION #4. Request a project REFERRAL and assistance from a Project Consultant for all project and infrastructure requests.

Who will manage the telecommunication and networking portions of my project?

Stanford IT Services has a team of project consultants who will discuss your project with you and assist with design specifications from project initiation through deployment. Please contact 5-HELP and choose Option #4 to request that a Project Consultant be assigned to work with you.
