Service Overview

IT Services provides training and services that enable departments to manage the local networks within their buildings. For student residences, Networking Systems supports the data communication infrastructure to the service outlets in student rooms. Residential computing supports students in obtaining and using in-room network services in student housing facilities.

Turn around time of request: For requests that are dispatched, client contact should occur within 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I need to connect my in-room connection.
    There should only be students calling about in-room connections. Refer the student to rescomp.Stanford.edu to fill out information to begin their in-room connection.

  2. I need a network connection.
    Ask if staff or student. If student refer to rescomp.Stanford.edu. If a staff request, refer to LNA. If they don't have an LNA, let ticket auto-route. Connectivity and department name need to be included on the ticket.

  3. I need to move our department network.
    If person is not a Net-to-Jack client, refer to department LNA. If person is a Net-to-Jack client and it's only the connection, the Department IT Contact of the department needs to fill out an on-line CSO at cns.stanford.edu

  4. I need to disconnect my in-room connection.
    Refer to rescomp.stanford.edu.

  5. I live off campus, how do I connect to the Stanford network?, What are my off-campus options for connecting to the Stanford network?

  6. How can I be sure my in-room connection is disconnected?
    After the student disconnects at rescomp.Stanford.edu, they should receive a confirmation back, confirming their disconnection. If they don't receive confirmation, refer to their RCC.

  7. Who is my RCC?
    The RCC directory is at http://rescomp.stanford.edu/directory/rcc.php.

  8. I live at Stanford West, why are my computing rates different?
    The computing rates at Stanford West are based on competitive DSL rates. Stanford West is off-campus housing and subscribers have a choice between different providers.
