Service Overview

The Card Office oversees the production of new and replacement cards, maintains a database of active students (from Student Records) and faculty and staff (from Personnel), installs and maintains card readers, and assists in developing new Stanford ID Card applications.

Required information from client: All demographics from Helpsu ticket and also to include University ID number.

  1. What is the Stanford University Campus Card? And what is it used for?
    Your Stanford University Campus Card is your Stanford ID Card. It is the key to surviving on campus. It serves as an identification car, an electronic key and a debit card, allowing you to easily enter facilities or use services for which you have privileges. You'll be able to use your card to:
    • Access Campus facilities such as your dormitory and libraries
    • Purchase food and meals at the various locations on campus (ex; Treehouse, Jamba Juice, Moon Bean's Café, The Coffee House, Stern's Cyber Cafe)
    • Pay for books and accessories at the Stanford Bookstore located at the Main Quad, the Shopping Center, the Museum, the Track House and Tresidder Express.
    • Use campus copiers, and network printing
    • Purchase tickets for Athletic events
    • And more is being added


  2. Am I in the Card System so I can come and get my ID
    Patron Lookup in Card System - If Y, send to Card office. If No, Create a Helpsu ticket. Problem info> ID CARD > Route to HR if faculty/staff or Student Admin if student > Group Category is "Univ ID not in Card System"

  3. Is my spouse/domestic partner eligible for an ID Card?
    Yes. Courtesy cards (a $15 fee is assessed for all Courtesy cards):Spouses of those eligible for faculty, staff or student cards Same-sex domestic partners of students, faculty and staff Opposite-sex domestic partners of students Employees of Stanford Hospital and Clinics Certain other University affiliates as defined by the administration (contact the Card Office for a complete list)

  4. My card has been stolen, lost, or damaged. What do I do?
    If your card has been damaged, bring it to the Stanford Card Office in the Old Union. Staff can replace your card on the spot, using the same or a new photo. The replacement fee is $15. If the stripe on the back of the card becomes demagnetized, the Stanford Card Office will replace it without charge. If your card has been lost or stolen, report its loss to the Stanford Card Office immediately, so it can be suspended for all on-campus use. After your card has been suspended, come to the Stanford Card Office to get a replacement. In the case of theft, if you can provide some evidence of having filed a police report, the replacement fee will be waived. If you find your lost card after having a new card issued, cut up the old card and throw it away. The old card will not work after a new card is issued. If you have not yet had your card replaced, you can reactivate your lost card by visiting the Stanford Card office.

  5. I am a Hospital employee. Am I eligible for an ID?
    Yes. To obtain your Courtesy Card, download a copy of the application form and bring to the Card Office along with photo ID (driver's license or passport). There is a $15.00 charge that can be paid at the cashier's office before obtaining a card.

  6. Is there a cost for an ID?
    Your first Stanford ID card is provided at no charge. If your card has been damaged, bring it to the Stanford Card Office in the Old Union.   7. My status has changed. Can I get a new ID that reflects that?
    Yes. Just bring the card to the Card Office and it will be replaced with your new status.

  8. Where can I add money to my ID card/Stanford Card plan?
    You can add money to your Stanford Card Plan at the Cashiers office in the Old Union and at the Cash-to-Card machines located at:

  9. What is the difference between the Stanford Card Plan and Cardinal Dollars?
    The StanfordCardPlan is a pre-paid debit plan that enables students, faculty and staff to purchase goods and services from on-campus activities. The Plan, an option for your Stanford ID Card, makes your on-campus day-to-day financial activities more efficient and convenient. The StanfordCardPlan is administered by the Bursar's Office.

    Cardinal Dollars can be used by students living in residences with dining halls, but they can also be used by graduate students, faculty, staff, and students living in residences without dining halls. Cardinal Dollars allow you to increase dining flexibility within your residence Meal Plan by providing dining facility choices outside of your residence. With Cardinal Dollars, you can meet friends for lunch at their dining hall, dine at cafes around campus, or sample Stanford Dining's late night eateries.

  10. How can I get courtesy card application for my spouse/domestic partner?
    To obtain your Courtesy Card download an application form and bring to the Card Office along with photo ID (driver's license or passport). Spouse/domestic partner Courtesy Cards requires proof of joint residence. Your spouse/domestic partner must accompany you when you apply, and must bring their valid Stanford ID Card.
