IT Services provides free access in most campus buildings to 27 educational channels that include Stanford-specific programming designed to enrich the academic experience. IT Services offers commercial cable TV service, too: in student residences (STV), in patient rooms at the Medical Center, and in the apartments at Stanford West. (Commercial cable TV is generally not available in academic buildings.) STV, the student service, provides all of the educational programming mentioned above plus news, entertainment and sports: channels like CNN, Discovery, ESPN, MTV, Sundance Channel, several premium channels, and better reception for local broadcast channels.

The Stanford Cable TV network works with 'standalone' TIVO devices. You cannot use a TIVO device that requires integration with a satellite dish.
Satellite installation is not permitted on the campus. However, if you reside in an off-campus residence, you will have to discuss this with your landlord to determine if it is permitted.
Yes! This requires that you order Digital Cable. Digital Cable requires that you are at your residence for installation at a pre-set block of time and is more expensive than basic cable.
Standard Cable (basic/analog) will be activated within 5 business days of your request. Digital Cable requires a pre-set appointment with a technician. However, if you order Digital Cable, your basic cable will be active within 5 business days and your Digital Cable will become active at the time of your appointment with the technician. The Digital Cable box delivered by the technician must be returned to Stanford when you disconnect your service.
Digital Cable Boxes can be returned to the Residential Service Center in your dormitory, if you live on campus or the Apartment Management Office if you live in a Stanford residence off-campus.
Yes! You must be at your residence for DIGITAL cable to be activated. You do not have to be at your residence for BASIC ANALOG CABLE TV to be activated. If you order Digital Cable TV and you are not home when the technician arrives for the pre-set appointment, you may be assessed a 'missed appointment' surcharge.
Yes! Cables are available at Forsythe Hall in Room 190.
Yes! The fee for moving your Cable TV is $19.95 for analog and $29.95 for Digital Cable. If moving Digital Cable, you must bring your Cable Box with you and request another appointment with a technician. You will have to be at home for the appointment.
