Windows XP Service Pack 2 Configuration Tool
Overview
IT Services has developed an XP SP2 configuration utility to configure some of the new features of Windows XP Service Pack 2 to work properly with Stanford's administrative applications, Essential Stanford Software and the Stanford Wireless network. After installing Service Pack 2 users should download and run the tool.
What the Tool Does
- Configures the Internet Explorer popup blocker to not block popups necessary
for the use of Stanford's web-based administrative applications such as Kronos,
Peoplesoft and Oracle Financials. It does this by including all Stanford
sites in the Internet Explorer "Intranet" security zone and making
sure the security settings for the Intranet Zone is set to not block popup
windows.
- Configures Internet Explorer's cache settings to check for a new version of the page at every visit and sets the cache size to 10 MB. These settings help prevent problems with Stanford's web authentication system.
Running the Tool
The XP SP2 Configuration Tool can be downloaded from the Essential Stanford Software site.
The Tool requires no installation. To run it simply double click on the xpsp2config.exe file you have downloaded.
A window will appear displaying the items the Tool has configured:
Click OK to close the window.
For more information on what the tool does see the section on the Popup Blocker.
