Eudora 6.2.5
On this page:
Description
Eudora is an e-mail program that is widely used at Stanford. Eudora has features for managing your mail, including filters to weed out unwanted messages, folders for organizing messages, and an address book for storing frequently used email addresses.
Stanford offers both POP and IMAP email services, and Eudora can be configured for either service. Click here for information about which email protocol is better for you to choose.
A secure login is required for receiving @stanford email. Stanford's recommended configuration of Eudora uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption. Eudora also supports Kerberos. Users who wish to use Kerberos's secure authentication process can do so by installing Kerberos for Windows.
System Requirements
- Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP or 2000
- Download file size: 9.2 MB
- Access to your email account via a network connection on-campus or a remote connection (modem and dial-in connection or DSL) off-campus.
Notes
- Eudora 7: Eudora 7.1 is the latest version available from QUALCOMM. This
version includes support for Offline IMAP actions and, according to
the vendor, offers better IMAP performance. Contrary to these claims IT Services testing has found that this version is
significantly slower when checking mail using IMAP. For these
reasons we are not replacing Eudora 6.2.5 with 7.1 at this time. Users who wish to use Eudora 7.1 can download it here.
- Version 7.1 for Windows will the last commercial version of Eudora.
QUALCOMM has announced that its Eudora email program will become an
open source product effective the first half of calendar year
2007. See the Eudora Announcement FAQ
for details. More information and recommendations from IT Services
for Eudora users will be developed in coming months.
Several other email programs are supported by IT Services and widely used at Stanford. Please see Email Programs at Stanford for information on how to obtain and configure these clients.
- After upgrading to the current version, if you receive a message saying that you need to pay to use Eudora, click here for the registration code.
- If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Eudora your settings should remain unchanged. There is a bug in the way Eudora stores account settings that can interfere with this, so you are encouraged to check your settings against the configuration instructions, listed below, after upgrading.
- For information about setting up an @Stanford mail account, go to the Stanford Email web page.
