MacLeland 2.3

MacLeland is no longer available. Mac OS X 10.3 users can download and run an updater that will configure MacLeland to only obtain Kerberos 5 tickets. However, this will prevent AFS mounting from working properly. If you are running Mac OS X 10.3 and are using AFS mounting, please submit a HelpSU request to discuss available options.

Description

MacLeland, a control panel for your Mac developed by Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS) at Stanford University, brings Kerberos authentication and encryption to the Macintosh desktop for the SUNet community. This means that Telnet sessions to host computers are encrypted; and that your password, which you enter in Eudora to retrieve your mail from the Popserver, will not get transmitted unencrypted across the network.

This type of security is critical for many network services available to the Stanford community. MacLeland also provides access from the Mac desktop to Stanford's AFS file system. You can work with your AFS files from your desktop. You also have access to the AFS files of other community members, as well as other public files. (This requires installation of MacAFS, an optional component.)
