Installing the Connector for Apple iSync
On this page:
The Zimbra Connector for Apple iSync will configure iCal to access the Stanford Calendar. It will also provide a way to automatically sync the Stanford Email and Calendar's Address Book with the Mac OS X Address Book application.
Install the Connector
- Download the disk image for the installer.
- Double-click the zimbra-isync.pkg icon.
- When the Introduction page is displayed, click Continue.

- Read the license agreement and click Continue. Then, click Agree.

- Select your hard drive as the destination volume and then click Continue.

- Click Install to begin the installation.

- When prompted, enter your Administrator account for the Mac and click OK.

- When the installation has completed, click Close.
Note: This page may be behind the Zimbra preferences pane, which opens automatically.
Configuration and Synchronization
- After installation the Zimbra preference pane should open automatically.
If the preference pane does not open, go to Mac OS X System Preferences. In the "Other" section, click Zimbra.
- Click the Account tab and enter the following:
- Description: Stanford
- Server: your_sunetid.pobox.stanford.edu
- Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): checked (server port will change to 443)
- User Name: your SUNet ID
- Password: your SUNet ID password

- Click the Sync tab and enter the following:
- Synchronize: Every 30 minutes
- Contacts: checked
- Selected: selected
- Contacts: checked (but do not check Emailed Contacts)
- Calendars: checked
- CalDAV: selected (available only for Mac OS X 10.5 users - see "Note about Calendars" below)
Mac OS X 10.4 users can select specific calendars to synchronize according to the schedule set in this pane.
Note about Contacts: These settings control which of your contact lists on the server are synchronized with the Address Book program on your Macintosh. The list named "Contacts" is the default contact list everyone has on the server. There is also a default list named "Emailed Contacts" that contains the address of everyone you have corresponded with in Webmail. IT Services recommends that you not synchronize this list in order to avoid creating a lot of unwanted entries in Address Book although some users may wish to do this. If you have any other contact lists defined on the server, you will most likely want to synchronize them as well.
Note about Calendars: IT Services recommends Mac OS X 10.5 for users who wish to use iCal because this version of iCal supports CalDAV, which allows you to view attendees' availability when scheduling meetings.

- Click Sync Now.
