Configuring Spam Filters in Eudora 6 (Mac)
These instructions apply to both POP and IMAP email services at Stanford.
Note
You have the option of filtering or deleting spam using Webmail filtering. A Webmail filter creates filters on the server that are applied as the messages are delivered to your mailbox. This allows you to create filters in one place instead of defining them within each email program you use.
- To create a mailbox menu in which to transfer your filtered messages, go to
the Mailbox menu, click New. Name the new mailbox
Filtered Spam and click OK.
Note: If you are using Eudora's built-in spam filter and want to have all of your spam filtered into one mailbox, name the mailbox Junk.
- On the Window menu, click Filters.
- Click the New button in the lower left-hand corner of the
Filters window to create a new filter.
- Define the filter as follows:
- Check the box for Incoming to automatically filter your incoming
messages.
- For Header, select <<Any Header>>
- In the text box after contains, type: [SPAM:
- In the first box in the Actions section, select Transfer To.
- On the Transfer menu, select the Filtered Spam (or
Junk) mailbox. Incoming messages with [SPAM: in the subject line will be transferred into this mailbox.

- Check the box for Incoming to automatically filter your incoming
messages.
- Close the Filters window and Save your changes.
Be sure to review the contents of your Filtered Spam mailbox for falsely labeled mail. Delete the contents of your Filtered Spam mailbox periodically to avoid filling your computer's hardrive.
For more detailed filter instructions, see the Help pages within Eudora or go to Eudora's support pages.
