STV Cable Television Service for Students
STV is an optional, University-operated cable television service that provides a rich layer of entertainment, sports, news and cultural programming to the Stanford Community. Courtesy Room Service and Courtesy Lounge Service are available free of charge in student rooms and residential lounges. STV Basic analog and digital service requires a paid subscription to tune in.
If you and your roommate(s) choose to request Student cable service (STV), you must subscribe through the University. The local cable TV companies do not provide service at Stanford.

Considering TIVO instead of a cable box?
Stanford now supports TIVO Series 2, 3, and HD DVRs. Standard and Digital cable subscribers can enjoy the use of TiVo Series 2 DVRs. High Definition DVR subscribers can use either the Stanford-provided dual tuner DVR or the subscriber-supplied TiVo Series 3 or HD DVR. The cost of the Stanford Cable Service is the same using a Stanford DVR or a TiVo DVR. Use of TiVo Series 3 or HD DVR requires Cablecard installation.
Note: Using TiVo requires a separate TiVo subscription.
