Writing RequirementThe writing requirement has three levels -- a first level one quarter course taken in the first year, a second level one quarter course completed by the end of Sophomore year, and a writing-intensive course in the major. Freshmen enroll in courses offered by the Program in Writing and Rhetoric (PWR) to satisfy the first level requirement. Courses fulfilling the second level requirement are offered both by PWR and by other programs and departments. Classes are small (15 students or fewer), so each student receives individual attention. PWR courses include a range of thematic emphases, including history, environment, science and cultural studies. Students review section descriptions before the quarter in which they enroll.
