Academic Advising
At Stanford, each entering freshman is assigned to an Academic Advisor who is a member of the faculty or academic staff. The advisor offers guidance on settling into Stanford's academic life, navigating its resources, choosing courses, and choosing a major. An upperclass peer advisor is also available to each freshman. In addition, we encourage students to seek advice from the office of Undergraduate Advising and Research, located in Sweet Hall. Students remain with their advisor until they declare a major, usually by the end of the sophomore year, at which point they are matched with a faculty member in their department.
