A peek inside the Gravity Probe B satellite. The NASA mission, based at Stanford, launched the world’s roundest gyroscope into polar orbit in the spring of 2004 to test one of Einstein’s theories of relativity by measuring how space and time are warped by the presence of the Earth. After 17 months in orbit, scientists finished collecting the data that will put this theory to an experimental test. Was Einstein correct? They won't know until December 2007, when the analysis has been completed, but physicists around the world are eagerly awaiting the results.
