Buying Advice

for students
for faculty and staff

Looking for software?

Visit software.stanford.edu before purchasing software from the hardware vendors on this page. The University may already have negotiated a better price for you or your department.

Apple

Stanford faculty, students, and staff are eligible to purchase Apple computers and other products at discounted prices. The online Apple Store for Stanford offers specially-negotiated discounts for departmental (Stanford-owned) purchases and standard education discounts for personal purchases. The apple.stanford.edu web site explains the discount program and is the only way to get to the online Apple Store for Stanford.

Dell

Stanford has negotiated with Dell to supply desktop and laptop bundles at specially discounted prices for both departmental and personal purchases. If the bundles don’t suit your needs, you can still get special, low Stanford pricing when ordering from Dell’s special online store for Stanford. The dell.stanford.edu web site explains the bundle & discount program and is the only way to get to Dell’s online store for Stanford.

Stanford Bookstore (Apple, Dell, Lenovo, Sony, and more)

The Stanford Bookstore Computer Department sells a wide array of computer products to Stanford students, faculty, staff, and departments at prices often below standard academic discounts. Even better deals are available on discontinued products, sales floor demos, and “opened boxes” and, by request, the store can negotiate special software licenses for University departments. The Bookstore is also a manufacturer-authorized repair and upgrade service center.

University Procurement Campus Wide Agreements (CWA)

Stanford University partners with suppliers in an effort to offer products for departmental purchase at the lowest total cost. To take advantage of these savings, order through the Campus Wide Agreement (iProcurement catalog ordering) process. Note: If you are purchasing an Apple or Dell product that will be owned by the University, please start at apple.stanford.edu or dell.stanford.edu.
