Certain Noble Plays of Japan along with Tagore's play was one of the  few exceptions to the general character of the Cuala Press's publications. This collection of traditional Japanese Noh plays in some way appeared relevant to W. B. Yeats for the Irish Renaissance, and Elizabeth Yeats published this compliation of Japanese plays by an American editor in 1916. The title page shows a device designed by Robert Gregory. "Bell, Waterfall and Fish" first appeared in A Book of Sints and Wonders by Lady Gregory.
