In 1925, Lewis received a fellowship from Magdalen College. Magdalen, the idealistic stronghold of Oxford in the 1920's, gradually exposed Lewis to the value of idealism. The most important ideal that Lewis came to believe in during his first few years at Magdalen was in the necessity of an Absolute.
