Name: Jonathan Griffin

Position: Head Coach (Women & Men)

Rugby Positions: Flyhalf, Fullback

About:

Griff came to Stanford in February 2005 from Loughboro University in the UK, where he coached the women's team to an English collegiate national championship. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Griff had studied excercise physiology and worked in the business world before becoming a full-time rugby coach. Since his arrival, Stanford Women's Rugby has won two consecutive USA Rugby Collegiate National Championships, in 2005 and 2006. Name: Tina Nesberg

Position: Assistant Coach (Women)

Rugby Positions : 8, Flanker, Inside center, Loose head prop, Lock

About:
Tina is the coach of the Crawford squad, Stanford's 'B-side' team. Tina started playing rugby at Northern Michigan University ('98-’99) and continued to play for the Scottsdale Lady Blues (’00-’02), the Colorado Springs SheWolves ( ’02-’03), the Christchurch WRFC NZ (04’), and the Berkeley All-Blues (’04-’08). She has also been selected for a number of regional and national squads throughout her playing career: USA Senior 15s Women Eagles (’01-’06), USA Senior 7s (Hong Kong-'06), Southern California Griffins (’01-’02), West Select (’02-’03), Pacific Coast Grizzlies (7s & 15s- ’04-’06), Golden Eagles (Bermuda ’06). In 2006, she was named as Goff on Rugby's Female Forward of the Year. Tina has coached various high school teams, beginning in 2003 and was recruited to coach the Crawford squad in 2007. Tina also teaches special education at Palo Alto United.



  


Name: Katrina "Bisquit" Logan

Position: Assistant Coach (Women)

Rugby Positions: Prop, Flanker, Hooker, 8

About:

Katrina graduated with honors from Stanford in 2003, with degrees in African and African American Studies and English. During her years at Stanford, she went to the Collegiate Final Four, was selected for the U-23 Pac Coast Grizzlies (4 years), and played on the U-23 National Team (2002-2005) as a prop. Katrina played with BASH from 2003-2004 and has played with the Berkeley All-Blues starting in 2007. Most recently, she helped the All Blues win the women's club national championships in 2007. Katrina also graduated with a law degree from Santa Clara University in 2008. She is currently interested in pursuing family law.


 
  
Name: Heather "HP" Smith

Position: Assistant Coach (Women)

Rugby Positions : Inside center

About:
Heather, better known as HP, began her rugby career here at the Farm. As a member of the class of 1999, HP played inside center on a squad that made 3 trips to the Final Four ('97-'99). The team proved to be quite successful, achieving a Division I and II National Championships, as well as a 3rd place finish in Division II. In 1999, HP was selected as a member of the u23 PacCoast Grizzlies and the Senior Women's Grizzly Team. After graduation, HP played with BASH (Bay Area She-Hawks) Rugby Club along with several other Stanford alums. HP joined Griff as an assistant coach in 2005, and helped coach the team to the Division I Title in 2005 and 2006. HP lives in Palo Alto and teaches 6th grade. Name: Rachel "RTT" Blakeman

Position: Certified Athletic Trainer

About:

After several years in the music business, Rachel made the decision to change her career to the Sports Medicine field. In 1997, she earned her B.S. in Kinesiology with a focus on athletic training. In 1999, she completed her M.S. in Kinesiology with a concentration in Movement Sciences (Exercise Physiology/Biomechanics). She is now a Certified Athletic Trainer through the National Athletic Trainer's Association. Some of her previous notable work includes employment with the USOC at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. She heard of Stanford Rugby through a coworker and worked her first match in 2005; she has been a part of the team ever since. Since then, she has also worked some events for the USA Rugby Women's U-23 program.
