Laura Harrison, Ed.D.
Assistant Dean and Director
lauramh@stanford.edu
Im the director of the Stanford Womens Community Center. I assumed this post in 2000 out of a motivation to work with the most amazing women student leaders in the world. I love the WCC because it is a place where women learn to confront the barriers to reaching their full potential. I am also one of the resident fellows in the best dorm on campus, Burbank House, where I live with my partner Stephanie Eberle and our dog, Mr. Chopstick Harrison.
Faith Kazmi
Assistant Director
fkazmi@stanford.edu
Hello, Im the Assistant Director of the Womens Community Center, and work closely with womens student organizations, graduate womens programming, and the Stanford Womens Leadership Conference. The critical thinking and conversations that emerge in the center regarding the intersections of identity, feminism, social justice, and leadership consistently inspire me in my work here. On a personal note, I recently traveled to Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, which helped to inform my research interest in the influence of international service experiences on identity and leadership -- so if youve traveled, Id love to hear about your adventures abroad!

Im serving as a WCC Grad Coordinator for the second year,
and Im a 3rd year Ph.D. student in History specializing in Mexican
American labor, gender, and civil rights history. I am also involved
in the Chicano/Latino Grad Students Association. I will be teaching
a seminar this year (Border Lives, Border Identities: The History of
Mexican American Women in the U.S.- Winter 2008) and TAing for U.S.
Womens History in the spring. Fun Fact: I was featured in a Glamour
magazine article alongside American Idols Fantasia and Elizabeth
Hasselbeck from The View. Weird combination!

Fatima Abdullah Hassan
Academic Support Coordinator
Human Biology Major, class of 2009
fhassan@stanford.edu
Im a junior studying Human Biology (emphasis on Womens Health and Human Rights) and possibly minoring in African Studies. I am the Academic Support Coordinator this year at the WCC and look forward to connecting students with the millions of intellectual opportunities on campus. I am currently a research assistant with the Stanford University Eritrean Maternal Health Project and this years Muslim Stanford Awareness Network president. I love hanging out with people over warm drinks and talking for hours about issues that affect our generation. Finally, I love ethnic foods, art, talking about my 7 brothers and sisters and about growing up in a small town in Texas.

Niji Jain
WVSO Coordinator
Human Biology Major, class of 2008
niji@stanford.edu
Im a senior majoring in Human Biology, with a concentration on Womens Health. Im minoring in Spanish and have spent time abroad in Mexico and Chile. Im excited to be on staff at the Womens Center this year as the WVSO Coordinator, and want to see every great idea on campus turn into an exciting event. If you have an idea for something the Womens Center ought to be doing, come talk to me! When Im not at the WCC, Im probably doing yoga, eating ice cream, or lying on the hammock in front of Columbae.

Melissa Jones
Publicity Coordinator
class of 2010
mj2317@stanford.edu
I love my job as Publicity Coordinator for the WCC because it blends
my passions for people, art, and social issues! I grew up in a small
town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, and the only
thing better than spending time in the great outdoors is traveling and
exploring new places with my family and friends (and my trusty Nalgene
bottle, of course). Studying how we got to where we are today and how
we can progress forward excites me greatly! I like an active, simple
life full of good company and good times.

I was born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan. Im currently a Junior at Stanford, pursuing a Major in Human Biology focusing on International Womens Health. I love poetry and have taken a couple of poetry classes at Stanford. Im currently an RA at Burbank (yea all new all frosh). I learnt how to ride a horse before I knew how to ride a bike. Previously I was also the Sexual Assault Prevention Program Coordinator at WCC. Outside of the Womens Center, Im actively involved with SIRUM, AKPsi, and PaS.

Cristina Munoz
Sexual Assault Prevention Program Coordinator
class of 2009
alephone@stanford.edu
From the sun-soaked beaches of south Florida, I come to the WCC
bringing strong convictions about womens issues, as well as an
unparalleled antipathy for cosmetic surgery. I am preparing to
declare Civil Engineering as my major, but first I need to get
over my aversion to problem sets and suffering. I love to
travel, complain, bake things with at least 2500 calories per
serving, unicycle down lots of stairs, and run away from my
problems, usually to Salt Lake City.

Kelly Nigh
Publicity Coordinator
class of 2010
knigh@stanford.edu
This is my first year working at the WCC, and I am really excited! My main interests lie in science, which has earned me the nickname "Kelly Nigh the Science Guy" in the past. I have not declared a major yet but I am interested in biology and computer science, so maybe something will come out of that. Having an interest in science has often landed me in a group consisting of more males than females, and I have come to find that it is important that women receive the encouragement and guidance necessary to succeed in a field that can still be male-dominated. Hopefully other women will be able to find this network of support at the WCC!

Sanah Parvez
Herstory Program Coordinator
Cultural and Social Anthropology Major, Human Biology Minor, class of 2008
szparvez@stanford.edu
This is my third year on WCC staff, and I keep coming back because I
love being in the constant presence of intelligent, driven women. The
WCC itself is affixed in my mind as an overarching symbol of
everything Ive loved doing as an undergraduate. In addition to
staffing, I am writing an honors thesis and deciding what to do with
the rest of my life. My favorite time of the year is Herstory month
(of course), but in my spare time I enjoy celebrity gossip, watching
entertaining yet awful movies, and reading transnational feminist
literature.

Women at Work Program Coordinator

Amparo Vazquez
Sexual Assault Prevention Program Coordinator
International Relations Major, Class of 2008
avazquez@stanford.edu
When I first started working in the WCC, two years ago during my sophomore year, I didnt know who I was or who I wanted to be. I thought I knew, but really I was SO lost. Now, I know. Im a STRONG, passionate, educated Mexican-American woman who IS going to make a difference. The WCC has taught me this. The people Ive met and the dreams Ive created while working here have taught me this. I have struggled SO much these past years, but I always had the WCC and its people to encourage, support, and nurture me. My heart is, and will always be, with the WCC.
