At Stanford

"Olympia will offer yet another different dimension to our team," said VanDerveer. "She is a very good defender, an excellent rebounder, and is quick enough to be able to guard the opponent's point-guard. I expect her to be as good an offensive rebounder as she will be defensively. She may need a little work on her offensive moves, but I expect those to come along. One thing she can do is leap."


In High School

Following her senior year at St. Bernard High School in Playa del Ray, Olympia was named a Second Team Parade All-American... Prior to that season, she was named a Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American...Following her junior year, she was named All-State in Division IV, the CIF Player of the Year (Southern Section) in Division IV, the LA Times Player of the Year, the LA Times West Side Player of the Year, the Mission League MVP, and First Team All-League...That team in her junior year won the CIF state championship, beating Grass Valley Bear River in the finals...She averaged 13 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks that season...Her freshman year's team won the CIF championship (Southern Section)...She was also First Team All-League as a sophomore...She has also been in the U.S. Olympic Festival the past two summers...In San Antonio in the summer of '93, Olympia led the entire Festival in blocks and rebounds, while a member of the West Team, even though she was the youngest player in the Festival...She was also a member of the West Team in St. Louis in the summer of '94...Olympia was also on her Student Council...In addition, she was the Far West teen President of Jack & Jill, Incorporated, a service organization for Afro-American youths...Chose Stanford over Arizona and Iowa.


Personal Information

Born August 5, 1976...Olympia was born on the final day of the 1976 Olympic Games held in Montreal, hence her name...Parent's names are Stephan and Jacqueline...She may want to major in communications or in political science...Depending upon her major, she wants to either go into broadcasting or maybe become the President of the United States. She says "a degree from Stanford is like gold."
