At Stanford

Until this season, Anita was Stanford's tallest player in history (with Jill Yanke) at 6-5...Incoming freshman Chandra Benton at 6-7 is now Stanford's tallest...Anita made a nice transition from the high school ranks to college ball in '91-'92...It was so nice in fact that she was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team...For the last two summers, Anita has played for a pair of U.S. National Teams...Two summers ago, Anita played for the USA Team that competed in Taiwan for the William Jones Cup (June 26-July 4)...Then last summer, she competed on the U.S. National "A" Team that was coached by Tara VanDerveer and that went on to win a gold medal at the Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia...Anita has an uncanny ability to shoot hook shots with either hand (a la George Mikan and Bill Russell)...In 1993-94, she led Stanford in scoring (16.7 ppg) and became the Cardinal's go-to player in the second half of the season...Anita was one of Stanford's most improved players in 1992-93...It all began with the team's trip to France in late August-early September of 1992...In one game versus the professional team from Moscow during the Eurostars Tourney, Anita hit a big time turnaround basket from about 10-feet away over a defender bigger than she, all with about 55 seconds remaining...She was fouled on the play, and then calmly sank the free throw...From down by a point, Stanford was now up by two...It was the game's biggest moment... Stanford went on to defeat Moscow, 84-82, in a quarterfinal game and advanced further into the tourney...Anita scored 21 points in that game...Her confidence carried into the regular season..."Anita's strengths are her discipline and her work habits," said VanDerveer. "She's also a scoring machine, both from the high and low post, and she has a good outlet pass. Her attitude is excellent, and she really improved her defense and her intensity. She is coming off last season with a lot of momentum. Right now, she must be considered one of the top centers in the nation." Anita is now Stanford's 16th all-time leading scorer with 1050 career points...She is also 16th in career rebounds with 502.
