About Joohong's research on a system design of Point of Care(POC) device:
This research aims to design a portable biosensor interface for biomarker measurement. The interface utilizes giant magnetoresistive (GMR) spin-valve(SV) sensor and magnetic nanoparticle(MNP) to detect a biomarker quantitatively. Since GMR SV sensor exhibit a high flicker noise, we modulate the signal from the MNPs to higher frequencies with a double modulation scheme. In addition, we process the signal from the MNPs with time division multiplexing(TDM) and frequency division multiplexing(FDM) for time efficiency. Currently, our goal is to design a battery powered portable diagnostic tool integrated with a microfluidic chip, and utilizing a smartphone.
