About Chin Chun's research on Magnetic Separation and Capture:

Many biological projects require complicated separation and purification processes, such as affinity chromatography columns. Even then, due to the complexity of such systems, multi-step purifications are not uncommon. Issues with such purification and separation processes are compounded when the desired objects are rare and small in quantity. In previous work in the group, a magnetic sifter has been fabricated for such separation, utilizing the fact that magnetic particles can be conjugated to these biological entities simply. We are thus working on further improving and extending this sifter system to other interesting biological problems.
