France: Napoleon
Istvan Simon is no admirer of Napoleon. Christopher Jones, who lives in France, has up the French cult of the Emperor: Napoleon is admired by the French because he was right. Napoleon's campaigns brought the idea of the rights of man, liberty, equality and fraternity to the peoples of absolutist Europe. He was also the embodiment of a "compromise" between France's 1000 year old divine monarchy and the forces of the revolution, because he brought order to the chaos of France after 1789. He was defeated by absolutists who never stopped trying to turn the clock back to the old days. He also was an extraordinarily tolerant sovereign, who founded France's Conseil Géneral des Juifs, an organization to protect the Jews of France.
RH: I think the cons outweigh the pros.
