UK Citizenship

The posting on Edward Thomas, the British poet, opened a can of worms, namely citizenship. Istvan Simon writes: The question of citizenship around the world is an interesting one. In the U.S., anyone born in the country is a citizen of the United States. Thus citizenship is acquired by the accident of birth.  There are other forms of acquiring U.S. citizenship, but being born in the United States is the main one. In many parts of the world, including the U.K. being born in the country does not confer citizenship. My son was born in Cambridge, England, but he is not a U.K. citizen.
