Armenia: David of Sasun

George Sassoon said he was a man of Sasun. Puzzled, I wondered if he was saying that his fanily came from Sasun (Sassoon) in Armenia, so I posted a long story about its national hero, David of Sasun.  George replies: I am most grateful for the information on 'David of Sasun'.  I know nothing of any Armenian Sassoons, but there is a hairdresser in London with that surname who claims that his family came from Turkey. My own Sassoon ancestors were from Baghdad - there have been several books written about them. RH: My guess is that the Baghdad Sassoons originally from Sasun (Sassoon), Armenia.
