TURKEY and the EU

From Athens, Harry Papasotiriou writes"From an intelligent Greek perspective, Valery Giscard d'Estaing's position of excluding Turkey from the EU forever is disastrous. This applies whether one is an (intelligent) Greek Realist of the Morgenthau school - to my mind too much maligned in a recent WAIS posting - or a Wilsonian idealist. Only atavistic Greek nationalists applaud Valery Giscard d'Estaing's position. Should Turkey be forever and ever, in principle, excluded from the EU, it will have no incentive whatsoever to cooperate in finding a solution to the Cyprus problem and in overcoming other Greek-Turkish disputes in a cooperative spirit".
