Steve Torok of Hungary sweeps across the steppes: "There is a Hungarian game "META" that is similar to the Russian Lapta , which means ball in Hungarian, so the Russians may have taken it not from the Mongols but from the old Hungarians living near the Volga and swept away by the Mongols!"

My comment: It is clear that God invented rounders (i.e. baseball) when he created the solar system. That is as far back as it is WAIS to go.
