SOCCER: America and the world

From Mexico, Raśl Escalante thinks there is some hope for the US: "US participation in Mens' Football World Cups is heroic, given the lack of support at home - even in US cities the Americans usually play to a hostile crowd [since there are more of those miserable foreigners supporting their miserable team.RH]. My guess is that more people in El Salvador will watch the World Cup than in the US (OK, I exaggerated slightly). Kudos to the US National Side. Although 'soccer' is a growing sport, it will probably not become mainstream until the US starts "kicking butt" in international competition. That day may not be so far away...A friend and I were discussing whether the World Cup would have wide viewership in China. We couldn't arrive to any conclusion".

My request: I would like Paul Simon to report on this from China, unless he views soccer as un-American.
