The Curse of History
The postings about enduring clan hatreds were pessimistic because they suggested that this cause of war could not be cured ad that therefore peace was an illusion. The personal case of Miles Seeley suggests there is hope.
     He writes:
I understand Rab Minto very well. Nobody ever accused the Highlanders of being logical about fighting. They were a violent people, for whatever reasons. My ancestors were also accused of leaving the castle at night and preying on vulnerable civilian shipping that was traversing the loch. Since I was accused, during my CIA days, of seeking out places to serve that were dangerous or at war (I did not think so, but the record is clear), I suppose the gene lingers on. The paradox is that I am truly a pacifist who sees war, especially in the modern world, as the ultimate insanity.Ronald Hilton - 09/18/99
