SCOTLAND: The Campbells and the MacDonalds

I knew it would happen. I am trapped between the Campbells and the MacDonalds. Having total trust in Tom Campbell, a devout Christian, I know I have more to fear from the MacDonalds. Tom writes:

"I look forward very much to meeting my fellow Scot, Dr. McLennan. In the interest of fairness, which you and WAIS so notably promote, let me observe that the Campbell side of the story is that the MacDonalds came over, admittedly at the Campbells' invitation, and under a flag of truce, for the Campbells to convince the MacDonalds to take the oath of loyalty to the English King. The MacDonalds had been holding out, and the Campbells had reached an accommodation with the English. No sooner did the MacDonalds arrive than they threw themselves upon their own swords, and spontaneously slit their own throats. The Campbells, of course, were aghast, but these things happen. Now I cannot ask others to believe our version, but, as a Campbell, I can believe no other. Yours, aye. Tom".

My comment: As the Italians say "Se non e vero, e ben trovato". However, since Tom had the reputation of being the most truthful Member of Congress, I accept his version.
