The Tower of Babel

We have repeatedly lamented the revival of odd languages in Europe; it contributes to Europe's Balkanization at a time when it strives for unity. The advantage of the Americas is that there are really two predominant languages: English and Spanish/Portuguese. This has enormous advantages for trade and intercourse generally. Now in Europe old tribal languages are coming down from the hills. Basque, which was spoken only by mountain groups when I was in the Basque country in the 30s, is now being pushed aggressively by the violent minority nationalists. The same thing is happening in Wales, where a Welsh assembly was created without a majority vote.
Now Ron Bracewell sends me a long message from a learned Sottish friend about the history of rivalries among the Scottish clans and among lowland and highland Scots. About language, he writes:
"The Gaels were at first Irish invaders...The Gaels and their language spread over most of the highlands, but not the lowlands...where Anglo-Saxon and English dialects were used...In spite of this, Gaelic is being introduced artificially as the national language of Scotland."
This madness is being promoted in our universities by linguists who have a vested interest in these things. They have been pushing a pidgin language, taki-taki, as the national language of Surinam.
These linguistic nationalists are the enemy of the people. Children should be learning a major language like English and such skills as computer literacy. If these areas fall behind in the struggle for progress and a decent life, they should know whom to thank for this.
A footnote: I showed the posting forwarded by Ron Bracewell to a bright American lady proud of her Scots heritage. Her family has been here for generations. I don't know to what clan it belonged. She paused on one paragraph which said:
"The Campbells are generally unpopular, mainly because of the Massacre of Glencoe, where they accepted the hospitality of the MacDonalds and then early next morning massacred the lot. There is a pub in Glencoe with a sign: NO DOGS! NO CAMPBELLS! This was reported to the Commission for Racial Equality as a case of racial discrimination, but the prosecution failed because Campbells are not a race within the terms of the Race Relations Act. The name Campbell (Gael: Cam Beul) means 'crooked mouth' as they have as they have a reputation for treachery and lying"
The American lady nodded approvingly and said "I can't stand the Campbells!" I don't think she knows a single one.
I have checked the Hoover directory and was relieved to see that there is not a single MacDonald.
