SCOTLAND: Re; Eigg; slave mentality or the will to power?

George Sassoon sent an alarming account, which appeared in Die Zeit, of a hippy takover of the island of Eigg.

Christopher Jones shared George's disgust.

John Heelan referred us to a happier website about the glorious takover.

George said it was a hippy website.

John replied: "George is mistaken. The website is part of Scotland's Centre for Human Ecology that offers accredited post-graduate degree courses".

George stands his ground: "I got this from the Isle of Eigg site you posted earlier. If this isn't hippy stuff, I would like to know what is?? They will all have been on the "waccy baccy" as cannabis is known in the Highlands".

From the suspect "CHE" Website:
"Introduction:
A CHE Field trip has the following objectives:
students will participate in group learning in an existing community, in the context of its place. They will witness and reflect on 'live' case studies in which principles are put into practice, encounter different ways of knowing, experience anew their sense of self in relationship, and have an opportunity to criticise the arguments of others.

They will be able to express their creativity - for instance through playing music, storytelling or leading the group in celebration - and have the opportunity to discuss their personal engagement with issues, others and places. Last but not least, they will be given information on approaches to undertaking an MSc thesis as well as an introduction to research techniques. In addition, they will have the opportunity to apply field research techniques whilst also being encouraged to consider in more depth the possible topics for their research thesis".

RH:
Sounds like fun. Scotland was once the home of intellectuals like Adam Smith. Is CHE named after Che Guevara?
