PHILIPPINES: Offer to send troops to Afghanistan
Bienvenido Macario, an American born in the Philippines, feels strongly about corruption in the Philippines and the gross maldistribution of wealth. Others feel like him, to judge by a posting (here extracted) by ABS-CBN news (11/17/01). The author is another American of Filipino origin:"R.P. WILLING TO SEND TROOPS TO AFGHANISTAN" I feel I have to do some explaining. After the Northern Alliance has taken Kabul, which was greatly softened by weeks of daily bombing by US Forces, here comes an old ally, my old country offering to take part after the war has been virtually won? What are they going to do? They could not even rescue or resolve the hostage crisis of 2 kidnapped Americans in their own backyard. President Estrada, now charged with plunder (not yet proven) did a better job of assaulting the MILF camp in Mindanao back in 2000. Corruption is about gross misallocation of credits and rewards. Given to the wrong person, the right person is denied what is due him or her. It is a double whammy. Arroyo is asking for reward for her support of the US fight against terrorism. Exactly what did her administration do? Filipino papers said she will ask that the US clean-up the toxic waste in the old US bases? The US is better off cleaning the real toxic waste in the Philippines -corruption".
