PHILIPPINES: Ninez Cacho-Olivares
Peter Orne says: "On the Philippines' case of The Daily Tribune's publisher and editor-in-chief, Ninez Cacho-Olivares, who was arrested by the Manila Police on two counts of criminal libel, a trusted journalist colleague in Manila writes the following: "Her arrest has to do with her libel cases (several). The paper she edits, The Tribune, is an opposition paper. But this doesn't give it the right to be irresponsible. I've followed some of its stories, and I'm sorry to say that accuracy is not one of their strong points". RH: The Philippine libel law is clearly much stricter than the American.Ronald Hilton - 8/9/03
