THE PHILIPPINES: Does Cardinal Sin sin?

Individual WAISers have pro- or anti-clerical opinions, as is their right, but WAIS itself is neutral. Stephen Schwartz rejects the newspaper criticism of Cardinal Sin:

"I consider Jaime Sin one of the outstanding Catholic churchmen today. Many people say he could succeed Wojtyla as pontiff. This is the best story I ever heard about him: he was riding in the back of a limo with Ferdy Marcos on his right and Imelda on his left. The road was bumpy and the driver was bad and Sin began to pray. Imelda asked, "your excellency, why are you praying?" "I am asking God not to let me die like Jesus between two thieves," he said.

My comment: Seriously, was Cardinal Sin openly critical of Marcos and Imelda when they were in power? There is one common denominator in news from Catholic countries: accusations of stealing by politicians. The great exception seems to be present-day Spain. In the past such accusations were plentiful, but I have seen none against the present Aznar government. Is it that ETA terror so fills the news that other stories get pushed aside? I still have no reply to my question as to whether it is indeed Church policy not to ask questions about the source of donations.
