MOROCCO: Terrorism in Casablanca
What a coincidence. Christopher Jones sent this: "I don't know anymore if US based WAISers are informed on Maghrebi events by a very "bushwhacked" US press bent on "selling copy." The events described in the attached article show just how the situation is Morocco is falling apart. And this country is of transcendental strategic importance. Despite the liberation of 16 foreign tourists, Islamic terrorists in southern Algeria continue to hold onto 15 others near the Libyan border and many fear the worst. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-683375,00.html". RH: At the same time came the report of a major terrorist attack in Casablanca. When I toured Morocco, I was struck by the difference between the old Moorish towns (such as Rabat, Fez, Marrakech) and Casablanca, which is essentially a French creation, a modern, western city, despite the huge mosque which the last king built on the waterfront to gain the support of the Muslims. It was precisely Casablanca, this western enclave in Arab territory, which the terrorists chose for their spectacular terrorist act.Ronald Hilton - 5/17/03
