MIDDLE EAST: Palestine

The United Nations has issued a pamphlet entitled The United Nations and the Question of Palestine. It is a useful summary. The key section says: "Palestine is an ancient land of great civilizations and cultures. A holy land for Christians, Jews and Muslims. In 1947 the United Nations partitioned Palestine. The Assembly envisaged independent Arab and Jewish states, with a special international regime for Jerusalem."
