LATIN AMERICA: Argentina and pot-banging protests
Tim Brown comes to the defense of the Argentine army against its detractors, "who make it appear that, one fine day, the Argentine army woke up bored, noticed they had extra bullets, and so decided totally without provocation to go out and rape, torture, and kill a few thousands totally innocent civilians just for the hell of it.Ideological vision may work that way, but the real world does not. Wars are fought between two sides, not one, and both side kills its enemies. They are also rarely started by governments against their own people without provocation. Finally, the bullets, mines, and bomBS of both sides are totally incapable of discriminating between innocent and guilty or between civilian and military, so there is always collateral damage.
One can believe the Argentine army acted in a totally unacceptable fashion without applying a total coat of whitewash to those who provoked the war and then fought it against that army".
My comment; My concern is what will happen to Argentina now. Both the army and the politicians are discredited. Throughout Latin America there are student leaders eager to grab power. This may happen in Argentina, a dangerous possibility, since the student leaders are obviously not qualified to govern.
