North Korea and President Carter
Put Mike Sullivan in the negative column about President Carter: " The results of Jimmy Carter's negotiations in 1994 with the North Koreans and their acceptance by the Clinton Administration have to be one of the most naive, appeasing and damaging efforts in US foreign diplomacy. I know hind sight is always 20/20, but it's been proven over and over that you can't deal with a brutal bunch of thugs and expect them to abide by their word or the terms agreed upon. There were many critics of this agreement at the time. They had pointed out the pitfalls of the US providing a Stalinist style North Korean government with our advanced technology and materials. The only thing we received in return was the North Korean word not to continue developing nuclear weapons and an apparent lessening of the tensions between the US and North Korea. North Korea's nuclear capability disclosure really complicates the question of what to do about Iraq and about our allies in the Pacific rim, Japan and South Korea. We must explain how the Administration can threaten that it may go to war against a country that may acquire nuclear weapons in the near future, while another country which is also in the Administration's "Axis of Evil" now is known to already possess them. This Administration has its' work cut out, and I pray it will all work out peacefully. However, if the UN fails to bring about some sort of consensus on Iraq, I feel we'll be attacking Iraq some time in November or December. Not good news".Ronald Hilton - 10/18/02
