INDIA: The Curse of History. The History Textbook Project

The press has run long stories about the mass massacres in India of Muslims by Hindus and vice.versa over the destruction of a mosque at Ayodhya and the plan to build a temple in its place. The mosque is some 500 years old, but the hatred goes back to Muslim assaults a millennium ago, when Mahmud of Ghazni ravaged the country, desecrated temples and killed innumerable people. How is this story told in history textbooks in the different parts of India? What an excellent subject for our history textbook project!
