FRANCE: Pacific terrorities, Axis of Evil, and the Old Europe
Martin Storey says: "Thanks to Christopher Jones for reminding us that "Jacques Chirac remains universally detested among the inhabitants of the island nations that surround Mururoa atoll", and let's be a bit stronger and say that France the country is remembered for this particular shameful episode of recent history. Let's not forget, amongst ecologically minded people, the destruction of Greenpeace's flagship "Rainbow Warrior", not once, but twice, in complete disregard of all laws. And this suggests that other current and some imminent events will not (should not) be forgotten any time soon: the "Axis of Evil" speech (which the people of the countries in question took personally, when in fact it was only referring to the governments), the "Old Europe" speech, and the war against Saddam Hussein, which is likely to kill many people who are not his direct relatives".
RH: I warned that the Axis of Evil and Old Europe talk would be taken by the peoples of those countries as an insult to their countries, not just to their governments.
