FRANCE: Help! Help! Help!

The Wall Street Journal (7/22/03) has an op-ed telling how, as part of its campaign against things American, "e-mail" must now be replaced with "courriel". It occurs to me that we can put French anti.Americanism to good us. Three-quarters of the SPAM in the world comes from the US, so this manifestation of American culture must be flooding French computers. Since the US Congress has been bribed by telemarketers, we can hope for only slow and partial remedy from our government. The French are presumably at the forefront of the European drive against SPAM, known generally in France as le SPAM. French anti-Americanism goes back to de Gaulle's Free France, France Libre. We should now hail our onetime ally with shouts of "Vive la France libre de SPAM!"
