FRANCE and Dick Morris
This comment from John Heelan is appropriate on July 4: " Dick Morris seems to ignore that without French finance, arms and troops, the revolt of the American colonies from England might well have failed. Even from the traditional basis of disrespect that "rostbifs" and "frogs" have for each other, I suggest that Dick Morris' rather sloppy piece of francophobia is somewhat harsh coming from an American leading me to question " Who is the ingrate nation to whom he refers?" RH: From the British viewpoint, the Americans conspiring with absolutist France against the most democratic power at that time is like American Communists conniving with th USSR. Later Britain was fighting the tyranny of Napoleon. I wish to commend the 4-part series on the Founding Fathers broadcast on the History Channel on Monday through Thursday of this week. Featuring distinguished American historians, it was accurate, well documented and balanced. If there is a British series on "the American war of independence", it would be very close to the American version The series is a tribute to the historians' profession. I would not accuse Dick Morris of being sloppy.Ronald Hilton - 7/4/03
