The Heatwave; Europe, and it's implications...
Christopher Jones says: "According to this scary article, the recent hot summer was not an exceptional event. The heatwave was instead a harbinger of more high temperatures to come. Our reliance on fossil fuels and in particular, the internal combustion engine is doing the trick. Knowing human nature, radical reform is impossible when it runs head on against the soul of capitalism: greed. So, get your abanicos out".http://www.guardian.co.uk/print/0,3858,4744226-110970,00.html
RH:
The rise in temperature may be a good thing for Canada and Russia, making the Arctic a navigable ocean. Greed is more than the soul of capitalism; it is imbedded in every human as the second of the seven deadly sins, where it goes under the name of avarice. We have been arguing as to whether corporations have souls. The definition of sin reads: "a theological term for evil behavior, either individual or corporate".
Curiously there is no sin which covers the behavior of the French who went away on vacation, leaving their parents to die in the heat, That is covered by the Fifth Commandment: "Honor the father and thy mother that thy days may be long". I would substitute "their" for "thy", I see life as a constant struggle between good and evil, and no amount of "progress" can eliminate that. Nor can French wines, haute cuisine, haute couture or haute culture.
