Re: Wall around Pyramids 08.02.03

Steve Margulies informed us that the new wall around the Pyramids was to protect an important archeological site from looters. Now he adds a second reason:

"One thing to mention about the Pyramid/Sphinx complex is that it is strewn with an appalling array of refuse. Every secluded corner (outside) bears the remains of Yesterday's meals. Cans, bottles and other trash are unavoidable. To complicate matters, very large slums butt right up to (within 100 yards) the Giza complex. While the Pyramids are stunning (they are after all, the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), this beauty is diminished by the surrounding environment. Granted I was there 5 years ago, but I doubt much has changed since. Regardless of whatever wonders may be forthcoming, this is reason enough to cordon it off".

RH:
I was there years ago, in an obviously more civilized time, since a place is civilized in inverse proportion to the amount of trash. The infamous Kentucky Fried Chicken, which was not there then, will be outside of the wall., with its abundance of bonesĘ There was a big restaurant near the Pyramids. Will that be moved?.
